Samara Weaving, Adam Brody, Andie MacDowell

When we talk about ‘dangerous blondes’ in action horror/comedies (almost every title has one), my favourite is definitely S.Weaving.

Most young actresses in similar titles are at least one class below in terms of acting (physical appearance is a relative thing, we will not take it as a comparative factor).

Although Samara’s ‘Babysitter’ doesn’t lag behind, this title is still her No.1. Bizarre enough, serious as it should be, dark humour is at very high quality, while masterful acting of the whole crew is the reason for the constant fun.

Plot? A very ordinary young couple in love is preparing for the wedding, on the groom’s aristocratic estate. After a successful ceremony, it remains to fulfill only one small formality to make the bride a legitimate member of the family.

A family which gained aristocratic status because of board games business has a ritual : at midnight, a member who joins a family must play one of the games, randomly selected.

At the moment of selection of the game, there is a serious tension in the air; everything says that something is not right, but at that moment we still do not know the reason.

…and the reason would stay unknown only if the bride hadn’t pulled out the game of hide-and-seek, what caused akward silence in the room ! Soon everything became clear to us, because as soon as the bride went into hiding, the rest of the family started arming themselves.

And it was clear to the bride too what was coming to her, when she saw that someone blew up nanny’s head with a rifle, while thinking it was the bride… The joyous game of hide-and-seek in this performance involves the rest of the family chasing her around the house in a very determined intention to ‘cut her head off’.

Of all the ‘participants’, the most sympathetic to me was the appearance of A.MacDowell as mother-in-law, with authentic southern accent. We do not often get a chance to see her in such explicit roles.

Crying is useless. Afterall, her future husband asked her on time (before wedding) is she ‘ready or not’. It didn’t sound ambiguous at the time 😉.

So babe – rip out that excess of the skirt, find some weapons and ‘show your teeth’ (read : save your life) !
