Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner
2013 remained in my memory as a year of unrepentant injustice at the expense of the awarded Oscar for the best film, ‘gifted’ to the title ’12 Years a Slave’, which I would only place in 5th place, after ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ (as a personal favorites), then the really worthy ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ and ‘Her’…
…and certainly after this title, which (besides the aforementioned favorite) was next on my list of the best for that year, and was also left without a single Academy Award.
It is a very complete film, first of all because of the high-quality and interesting script, and then because of the exceptional cast, led by Bale, who gave a really attractive performance.
I’d mention B.Cooper and J.Lawrence first, in superbly played supporting roles and their #2 joint title (out of 4). Cooper in the role of an FBI agent who tried to outwit the ‘hustlers’, while the director used a ‘safe ticket’ for the character of a mentally unstable person – as in the previous year in ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, where J.Lawrence proved to be a complete hit 💪, and in this title she ‘took’ both the BAFTA and Golden Globe awards.
Renner looked great in the role of the mayor of New Jersey, with a hairdo like Elvis Presley.
The only ‘complaint’ I would point to the styling of Amy Adams, who was persistently dressed in dresses with a huge neckline (which she really had nothing to fill 😊)… Of course, this is just a joking remark – Amy is certainly one of my favorites among the actresses of her generation.
That’s why C.Bale’s styling was definitely no.1 – a ‘beer’ belly, baldness that he hid (instead of a wig) with hair inserts, and a bunch of kitschy gold accessories (glasses, watch, jewelry…).
I would also like to point out the costume design, which also perfectly evoked the 70s.
