Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones, David Thewlis

The film is based on true events, according to a book by the wife of the famous Dr. S.Hawking (theoretical physicist and cosmologist), about their relationship and marriage through years of fighting with his immobility.

E.Redmayne took an Oscar for this lead role. I can’t say undeservedly, because he’s very convincingly enchanted dr. Hawking, who despite a severe and progressive illness managed to persevere in his ingenuity.

But what was left out were the understated two very important things – the personal misfortune that befell him, and the ingenuity he had, which left me indifferent to that segment of the film

Eddie’s acting performance much more comes to the fore in, for example. ‘Danish Girl’ (with A.Vikander), or even “Aeronauts” next to the same F.Jones.

On the other hand, looking at from the perspective of a devoted wife who consciously gave up her youth for the sake of caring for the man she loves, we get a touching life story.

Years of renunciation, self-care for the children and husband… Why? Because of one moment she couldn’t have influenced or predicted, when a professional nurse came into her life to take care of her husband, and alleviate…

…or take him away from her instead? In the professor’s life, that same woman turned out to be his soul mate, a person who understood him better than the one who devoted so many years, so much attention, love and children.

It was a rather tragic and devastating moment, although it was portrayed in the film as ‘luck in an accident’, because they both got the chance to continue their more fulfilling lives.
